Sophy started
the violin at the age of five learning primarily classical
music, but with both parents playing in the folk style she had
a wealth of tunes and support behind her when she turned
towards traditional music as a career.
She first became known as part of ‘The Pack’, and later the
instrumental band 422. She has played with artists such as
Alistair Anderson, Pete Cooper, David Oliver and fills in with
various ceilidh bands around the North East.
Sophy teaches both Fiddle and Band arrangement workshops, one
of her regular bands ‘Gigue Fish’ was chosen to perform in the
98 Youth Prom in London. She has taught at various Folkworks
Summerschools running ceilidh and concert bands as well as
playing for dance workshops.
Latest projects include as outdoor performance of a play told
in music and song called ‘The Last Wilderness’ (10th-12th Sept
Harehope Quarry, Frosterly) She is also working on a new band
made up of four fiddles playing primarily Northumbrian music
with Stewart Hardy, David Jones and Hinny Pawsey. |
